Spanish ranks among the world's most spoken languages, connecting diverse societies and rich cultures. As a Spanish major, you'll develop strong speaking and writing abilities while deepening your understanding of the social and cultural forces that influence Spanish-speaking communities. At UMass Dartmouth, Spanish majors examine the language, literature, and cultures of Spain, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latino communities. The program covers linguistics, history, commerce, arts, and music while introducing contemporary Hispanic thought and innovations. A Spanish degree opens doors to careers in education, government, law, media, tourism, social work, and translation services. For aspiring educators, we provide teacher certification for secondary Spanish instruction. Graduates may pursue advanced studies in Hispanic literature, cultural research, linguistics, or global affairs.
