The Bachelor of Arts in Music program offers focused training in performance, music history, education, and theory. Rooted in cultural, geographical, and social awareness, our program stands out through its exploration of global musical traditions, including jazz and world music. Modern technology plays a key role in the curriculum, equipping students with skills for today's music scene and its connections to digital arts, dance, theater, film, and visual media. As a music student, you'll hone your performance skills while discovering musical traditions across continents—from the Americas and Africa to Asia, Oceania, Europe, and the Middle East. UMassD's music program readies graduates for professional paths in composition, teaching, performance, audio production, and sound design, along with graduate studies in music and related fields. The curriculum fosters technical proficiency, analytical thinking, creativity, and innovation. Through coursework in performance, history, and technology, you'll build a strong musical foundation while customizing your studies. Electives span diverse areas like music therapy, audio engineering, film scoring, and genres from gospel and jazz to rock music.
