The Mathematics department at UMass Dartmouth provides a bachelor's program with a specialization in applied and computational mathematics. This computational track focuses on mathematical approaches essential for developing, evaluating, and executing numerical solutions to real-world challenges. The curriculum balances theoretical knowledge and practical applications, equipping students for diverse career paths such as actuarial science, algorithm development, biostatistics, data analysis, defense research, economics, education, financial services, game design, public sector roles, insurance, industrial applications, healthcare, consulting, psychological research, scientific computing, software engineering, and statistical analysis. Mathematicians excel at analytical thinking and problem-solving, making valuable contributions across academic, governmental, corporate, research, and technological fields. The program also serves as excellent preparation for advanced studies in mathematics or math-intensive disciplines like economics, engineering, and various sciences. Students can pursue either a BA or BS in mathematics, along with a BS in data science offered collaboratively by the mathematics department and the College of Engineering.
