The economics department provides a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a focus on applied economics. This specialization employs economic principles and data-driven analysis to solve practical challenges. Students explore the foundations of economic choices by examining the trade-offs involved in financial and policy decisions. The program also develops expertise in econometrics, statistical techniques, and specialized software for economic research. These applied economics competencies ready graduates for analytical roles across various sectors including banking, public service, healthcare, and consulting. At UMass Dartmouth, the applied economics curriculum teaches students to: gather and interpret microeconomic and macroeconomic data, assess analytical results, develop actionable insights for organizations and policymakers, understand and predict market movements, investigate economic challenges and assess policy alternatives. Economics graduates find opportunities in diverse fields such as corporate sectors, financial services, public administration, and media. The degree also serves as strong preparation for advanced studies in business, public policy, or legal education.
