Cultivating skilled leaders to guide the creation and evolution of learning ecosystems.
The Educational Administration program at UMass Boston aims to prepare visionary leaders capable of reshaping schools and community institutions across all levels, while challenging systemic inequities and advancing social justice through personal, organizational, and societal change.
This program emphasizes hands-on learning and theoretical foundations through Eight Leadership Principles that explore: the values influencing education, culturally responsive teaching methods for equitable learning environments, and helping students build leadership portfolios demonstrating their competencies.
Participants complete foundational courses offering a holistic perspective on educational leadership, paired with practical fieldwork through supervised practicums/internships. While following this shared structure, students tailor their experience through specialized fieldwork preparing them for leadership positions in educational and community settings. Core curriculum covers subjects like transformative leadership, organizational dynamics, instructional design, human resources, education law, financial management, diversity in education, and data-driven school enhancement—all viewed through a social justice lens.
The two-year program requires three courses per semester plus two summer sessions, with classes scheduled in late afternoons and evenings for working professionals. A standard semester typically involves two academic courses and one fieldwork component, while summer intensives run for three weeks spanning late July and early August.
