UMass Boston's Computer Science master's program equips students with comprehensive skills for a successful software development career. This forward-thinking program blends academic theory with hands-on practice, producing graduates sought after by leading tech companies and emerging startups.
Capstone Requirement
To earn the MS degree, students must complete a software development project through the course sequence (CS680, CS681, and CS682), typically undertaken in their final year. A faculty committee - including current software development instructors, lab supervisors, and the Graduate Program Director - must approve each project.
In rare cases, students with substantial industry experience may petition to waive the software development requirement. Applicants must submit a portfolio showcasing their professional work to a dedicated faculty review committee. Approved waivers require completion of an MS thesis as an alternative requirement.
