UMass Boston's Master's program in Special Education equips educators to work with students who have moderate disabilities across special education and inclusive classroom environments. This MEd program centers on promoting social justice in urban education, particularly addressing the needs of students with disabilities while developing the skills, attitudes, and methodologies needed to address disproportionate representation. Many courses offer online options for blended learning, and two associated special education certificate programs are fully online.

The Special Education MEd offers four distinct specialization paths:

Moderate Disabilities for Pre-K through 8th Grade
Moderate Disabilities for Grades 5-12
Transition Leadership
Non-Licensure Option
