Rehabilitation counselors are healthcare professionals who assist people with disabilities, helping them achieve personal and financial independence, often through career development. SGISD provides both a master's program and a certification track in rehabilitation counseling.
The rehabilitation counseling certificate at UMass Boston consists of seven courses designed for graduates with a relevant master's degree who wish to pursue national certification as rehabilitation counselors (CRC). This curriculum aligns with the requirements established by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification.
Many state vocational rehabilitation departments and certain community rehabilitation organizations mandate CRC certification for their counseling personnel. In Massachusetts, CRC status is a prerequisite for counselor licensure applications. Our certificate program equips graduates with the qualifications needed to pass the national certification exam and earn CRC designation.
