Develop expertise in evaluating environmental issues through interdisciplinary natural and social science lenses. This PhD program focuses on biological oceanography, marine ecosystems, how climate change affects oceans, and marine policy/management.
Oceans form Earth's thin outer layer, and marine science explores this realm from deep seas to coastal waters. These vast, ever-changing systems hold most of the planet's water, carbon, surface heat, and a significant portion of its biomass. Functioning alongside the atmosphere, landmasses, and ice, oceans power our climate system and sustain all terrestrial life.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates will master scientific methodology and experimental design to address environmental science inquiries.
Students will comprehend how laboratory, field, and survey data collection methods contribute to solving environmental challenges.
Graduates will evaluate environmental issues using diverse natural and social science viewpoints and research methodologies.
