Cultivating skilled leaders to guide the creation and evolution of learning systems.
The Educational Administration program at UMass Boston aims to prepare capable leaders who facilitate change and innovation in schools and community organizations across all levels, while challenging systemic inequalities in education and tackling social justice concerns at personal, institutional, and societal scales.
Program objectives center on delivering both practical and theoretical learning through Eight Leadership Principles that explore influential beliefs and values, culturally responsive approaches to foster fair and inclusive teaching, and helping students build a portfolio demonstrating leadership competencies.
Participants complete foundational courses offering a thorough understanding of educational leadership, along with hands-on practicum/internship placements. While sharing this core structure, students tailor their field experiences to prepare for specific leadership positions in educational and community settings. Core curriculum covers subjects like leadership dynamics, organizational change, curriculum development, staff management, education law, financial planning, diversity in education, and data-driven school enhancement—all viewed through a social justice lens.
This cohort-based program admits students annually each spring for a September start. Completion requires thirty-six graduate credits.
