Master the core principles of physics with a focus on education. UMass Boston's Physics BA program is designed for aspiring educators who wish to teach physics to future generations. To earn a BA in physics, students must complete at least 34 credits in physics courses, which include:
Fundamentals of Physics I with Physics Laboratory I
Fundamentals of Physics II with Physics Laboratory II
Introduction to Contemporary Physics and Physical Laboratory
Thermodynamics
Mechanics
Electricity and Magnetism I
Intermediate Laboratory
plus two upper-level physics electives (300-level or above).
Physics students are also required to take Multivariable Calculus (or Multivariable and Vector Calculus) and Applied Ordinary Differential Equations. Students may substitute up to two advanced mathematics or related science courses for physics electives, but must obtain department approval at least one semester before graduation. Earning a BA in physics meets the knowledge requirements for Massachusetts State Department of Education certification eligibility.
