The majority of Computer Science graduate students enter through the MS/PhD pathway. This indicates their initial goal of pursuing a doctorate while earning a master's degree as part of the process. In the early phase of their graduate studies, students focus on completing master's degree requirements while developing their research portfolio - both essential components for the PhD program.

Students in the M.S./Ph.D program must fulfill 6 core course requirements, accumulate 36 credit hours (which count core courses toward degree requirements), complete 18 Dissertation Credits, and undertake a 6-credit MS Project (which may be included in the 36-credit total).
