The Master of Arts in Art and Architectural History at UMass Amherst stands as the sole graduate program of its kind in New England's public university system. Qualification Requirements

Applicants to the 2023-2024 MA program must submit an application form, personal statement (one to two pages), two letters of recommendation, transcripts of academic work, and a sample of art historical writing with the applicant as sole author (no more than 20 pages of text plus relevant images and bibliography). A faculty committee evaluates the file, giving priority to the candidate's overall academic background in the humanities, foreign language competency, letters of recommendation, and motivation and interest.
Prior to their anticipated start date, applicants must complete a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association, or complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
