The economics doctoral program equips students with advanced analytical skills in economics, enabling them to make original contributions to academic research, education, and public policy. This dedication has established the department's global recognition as a hub for pioneering economic methodologies.
Each year, the program admits a cohort of ten to twelve graduate students. By emphasizing small class sizes and fostering strong faculty-student relationships, the department successfully recruits exceptional candidates comparable to those in the nation's most competitive graduate programs.
While primarily structured for PhD candidates, the economics graduate program also offers the option to earn a master's degree in economics during the course of doctoral studies.

Qualification Requirements
All entering PhD students must have completed one semester each of intermediate microeconomic theory, intermediate macroeconomic theory, linear algebra, and statistics (or econometrics), plus one year of calculus.
All applicants must take the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test. We do not require a minimum GRE score for admission, however the quantitative score for entering students is usually 151 (650 on the old scoring scale) or above.
The Economics Department expects scores higher than the minimums required by our Graduate School. The following tests are accepted:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), for Economics we expect a minimum score of 100 on the iBT version.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS), minimum overall band score of 7.
Duolingo English Test, minimum overall score of 130.
Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic), minimum overall score of 68.
