The Bachelor of Science in Horticultural Science equips students with a scientific foundation applicable to diverse careers involving landscape plant cultivation and the utilization of plant materials in both designed and natural environments.
The program delivers core instruction in plant biology, soil science, nutrient management, and the study of both detrimental organisms (like insect pests and plant diseases) and beneficial species that support plant health. Foundational science coursework is enhanced by practical horticulture classes covering landscape plants and food crops, developing skills essential for sustainable horticulture careers.
The curriculum also covers sustainable practices, environmental conservation principles, and how landscape plants contribute to improved quality of life.
Students can choose between two specialization tracks: science or business, tailored to their professional aspirations. The science track readies students for advanced academic study or technical roles within horticultural fields, while the business track prepares those aiming for entrepreneurship or careers in plant production, landscape services, or horticultural sales. Both tracks benefit students pursuing careers in education, community outreach, or recreational horticulture.
