The Film Studies Interdepartmental Program provides a film studies major option as a focused concentration within the Bachelor's Degree with Individual Concentration (BDIC) program.
Applicants to the major must have completed or be enrolled in at least 15 credit hours. Students craft their personalized study plan through the BDIC Proposal Writing course. The major requires completion of 12 courses: five core requirements and seven electives. Core courses cover film history before 1950, post-1950 film history, director/genre studies, national cinema, and film theory.
Elective selections allow students to focus on specific areas within film studies. Potential specializations include: cinema history, film theory, critical analysis, global cinema, cinematic cultures, international film, production techniques, filmmaking, and custom-designed concentrations. The proposal for establishing an independent Film Studies major is currently under review and will be assessed by both the Board of Trustees (BOT) and Board of Higher Education (BHE) in upcoming months. We expect careful evaluation and look forward to obtaining approval to move forward with implementation.
