The Creative Writing Specialization Letter (CW) guides students through a progression of beginner, intermediate, and advanced-level classes. These creative writing courses encourage exploration across diverse formats, styles, and approaches while offering instruction in poetic techniques and narrative craftsmanship. Collaborating with UMass English Department's renowned creative writing professors, students will:
Refine their original works through peer workshops, including short stories, novel excerpts, poetry collections, and personal essays
Conduct intensive study of literary techniques with a primary focus on one specific genre
Develop analytical reading skills through a writer's perspective

The English BA program offers comprehensive exposure to literary traditions from America, Britain, and English-speaking cultures. Students cultivate vital career competencies, mastering clear communication, analytical reasoning, persuasive argumentation, and rapid problem-solving.
