The AS in turfgrass management at UMass Amherst is a hands-on science program centered on cultivating and maintaining grassy spaces, from residential yards to sports fields and golf courses. As you train to be a turfgrass professional, you'll combine technical courses on grass growth and care with practical strategies for controlling pests, diseases, and weeds to maintain vibrant turf. The curriculum emphasizes real-world learning through internships, laboratory work, and fieldwork. Unique to Stockbridge School is the country's sole tennis turf research initiative at the Joseph Troll Turf Research Center. Graduates pursue diverse paths, working for government agencies, golf facilities, landscaping firms, or launching their own ventures. Other possibilities include careers in golf course architecture, city planning, and turf product sales.
