The Master of Science in Systems Engineering (MSSE) program was developed with significant industry collaboration. It addresses systems definition, requirements, specifications, design, implementation, and operational phases. Learners can focus on specialized areas such as robotics, cybersecurity, computer and software systems, control systems, manufacturing, transportation or process systems, communications and networking, signal processing, or operations research. Alternatively, students may pursue other specialization areas with their advisor's approval. The curriculum leverages the combined expertise of University of Maryland faculty in engineering, computer science, and management, while utilizing the institution's state-of-the-art resources, including industry-standard and open-source model-based systems engineering (MBSE) software. The university's location near Washington, D.C. provides strategic benefits for students pursuing or currently holding positions in federal agencies or their private sector partners. Maryland's thriving commercial sector, including bioscience, healthcare, and IT industries, also offers additional career opportunities.
