The Master of Public Policy (MPP) is a two-year professional program that equips students with essential skills, knowledge, and professional connections to analyze problems and develop effective solutions. The MPP program structure includes two key elements: a required core curriculum (totaling 27 credits) that builds expertise in governance, quantitative methods, and policy implementation, along with elective courses for specialized study. Students can apply their elective credits toward one or two focus areas or explore broader policy topics. Available specializations cover environmental policy, energy policy, international development, security and economic policy, leadership, nonprofit management, public finance, social policy, health policy, education policy, and a customizable option. Completion of 48 credits is required for the MPP degree. Develop expertise in policy formulation and governance while acquiring analytical tools and hands-on experience to tackle critical policy issues.
The Education Policy focus area introduces students to education policy's historical context and institutional frameworks, enhances their program assessment and data analysis capabilities, and prepares them to confront contemporary educational challenges, particularly those related to equity and social justice. This specialization leverages the renowned education policy curriculum offered by the University of Maryland's top-ranked College of Education.
