Nonprofits, philanthropic groups, and social entrepreneurs play pivotal roles in shaping and executing public policy while driving societal change. America's nonprofit sector includes over a million organizations, handles trillions in revenue and assets, employs about 10% of the workforce, mobilizes $400+ billion annually through contributions and volunteers, and relies heavily on government funding. MPP students across all interests can explore rewarding nonprofit careers spanning social/environmental policy to global development. As future policy leaders often helm nonprofit organizations, the Nonprofit Management and Leadership (NML) specialization mandates four courses minimum, while the focus area requires three. This three-course structure enables MPP students to potentially specialize in a policy area while earning NML certification.
