Housed in the School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, the Historic Preservation Program brings together faculty from diverse University departments including American Studies, Anthropology, Architecture, History, Landscape Architecture, Real Estate Development, and Urban Studies and Planning, along with the National Trust Library. Together, we aim to train professionals for careers in various preservation fields. The Program emphasizes research on preservation topics through collaborative faculty-student initiatives and partnerships with preservation groups and University affiliates. Located in the DC region with its numerous preservation institutions, students benefit from faculty with strong professional networks and enriching internship opportunities to develop practical skills. The program offers two dynamic urban settings - Baltimore and Washington - as living laboratories to examine critical issues like gentrification and sustainability. Our location provides access to a rich cultural environment stretching from the Atlantic shoreline to the Appalachian highlands.
All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
