The Curriculum and Instruction (EDCI) graduate program, part of the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership, provides Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree opportunities. The department features multiple tailored programs to help students achieve their academic and career objectives, whether in educational research, teaching, curriculum leadership, teacher training, or consulting across all educational levels from elementary to higher education. Certain M.Ed. specializations provide teacher certification pathways, including options for non-education bachelor's degree holders seeking teaching credentials. Additional M.Ed. tracks cater to current educators, while research-focused professionals can pursue the M.A. in Teaching & Learning, Policy & Leadership (TLPL).
The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) specialization, with its certification option, is designed for those pursuing expertise in English language instruction. This master's program combines research, theory, and practical teaching methods in TESOL, culminating in PK-12 certification for U.S. public school teaching. The degree requires completion of 39 credit hours, including a full-year teaching internship.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
