The Curriculum and Instruction (EDCI) graduate program, part of the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership, provides Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree options. Our department features diverse programs tailored to support students' academic and career objectives, spanning educational research, teaching, supervision, curriculum leadership, teacher preparation, or consulting across all educational levels from elementary to higher education. Certain M.Ed. specializations provide teacher certification pathways, including options for non-education bachelor's degree holders seeking teaching credentials. Additional offerings include specialized M.Ed. tracks for current educators and professionals, along with research-focused master's programs like the M.A. in Teaching & Learning, Policy & Leadership (TLPL).
Our intensive PreK-12 Physical Education Master's Certification Program (MCERT) combines graduate study with teacher preparation, awarding both certification and an M.Ed. degree within one year. Participants benefit from faculty mentorship while developing content knowledge and teaching skills through immersive internships at partner schools. The 36-credit curriculum includes teaching practicums, required Praxis examinations, a teaching-focused research project, professional portfolios (edTPA and ISTE technology standards), and academic coursework.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
