The Urban Studies and Planning Program provides graduate education culminating in a Master of Community Planning (MCP) degree. (Housed within the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, the MCP program shares its home with a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning and Design - refer to URPD for more information). This program holds accreditation from both the Planning Accreditation Board of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning. Students can pursue dual master's degrees combining Planning with Architecture, Historic Preservation, or Landscape Architecture. A credit transfer arrangement exists with the School of Law in Baltimore for a joint JD/MCP program. Additionally, there's collaboration with UMBC's Policy Sciences PhD program. Incoming students come from varied academic disciplines including architecture, humanities, social sciences, and business. Faculty expertise spans metropolitan planning, housing, transportation, environmental policy, urban design, and economic development. Graduates enjoy robust career prospects in this competitive field, with the Baltimore-Washington area offering plentiful opportunities across public, private, and nonprofit sectors in urban planning and program management.
All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
