The Sociology Graduate Program is tailored for those pursuing a Ph.D., though students can also earn an M.A. either while progressing toward their doctorate or if they exit before completing it. Key research focuses within the Department encompass: population studies, economic development, gender roles, labor and family dynamics, globalization theory, military social structures, psychological aspects of society, and social hierarchy. Approximately 50% of our Ph.D. graduates secure academic positions at higher education institutions, while the remaining 50% enter research, administrative, or consulting roles in government agencies or private sector organizations. Being situated in the Washington, D.C. region provides exceptional research career prospects for our alumni.
