The School of Music provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts degrees specializing in ethnomusicology, music history (musicology), music education, and music theory. Students can also pursue Master of Music degrees in performance, composition, conducting, and music education. Doctoral options include the Ph.D. in ethnomusicology, musicology, music education, and music theory, along with the Doctor of Musical Arts in composition, performance, and conducting. Across all disciplines, learners collaborate with distinguished faculty while preparing for professional roles as performers, researchers, composers, teachers, and more. Our integrated undergraduate and graduate curriculum enables students to receive intensive training within a vibrant academic environment that embraces every facet of musical exploration - from artistic creation and performance to critical analysis and cultural interpretation.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
