The Statistics Program provides Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees for advanced study and research in statistics and probability. Faculty research spans diverse areas including high-dimensional data analysis, statistical decision theory, biostatistics, stochastic modeling, robust inference, semiparametric methods, categorical data analysis, stochastic process theory, time series analysis, and spatial statistics. Students can specialize in either applied or theoretical statistics by tailoring their course selection and research focus to create a personalized academic path. Designed with adaptability in mind, the program accommodates students' varying backgrounds and interests. Additionally, it enables students from other fields to enhance their studies by incorporating relevant statistics coursework.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
