As a key component of the School of Public Health, the Department of Kinesiology provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts degrees (with both thesis and non-thesis tracks) and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Students can pursue research specializations across three primary domains: exercise physiology, cognitive motor neuroscience, and physical cultural studies. Each concentration area enables learners to craft tailored academic paths under faculty supervision, aligning with professors' specialized knowledge. The master's curriculum permits candidates to choose advisors specializing in cognitive-motor neuroscience, exercise physiology, or physical cultural studies. This interdisciplinary program brings together students from STEM and social science disciplines to tackle multifaceted challenges concerning sports, human movement, physical activity, and their impact on health throughout all life stages.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
