The Jewish Studies Program provides both a Master's Degree and a Graduate Certificate in Jewish Studies. The Master's Program delivers comprehensive, interdisciplinary graduate education in Jewish Studies while allowing students to specialize in specific areas of Jewish culture and history. Coursework leverages the program's strengths, including Jewish History, Biblical Studies, Jewish Literature and Cultural Studies (with emphasis on ancient and modern periods), Yiddish language, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Israel Studies. Students also enroll in related courses outside Jewish Studies, guided by faculty advisors. With an exceptional library collection (among the best in the mid-Atlantic region) and proximity to premier research institutions like the National Archives, Library of Congress, and U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the University offers an ideal environment for advanced Jewish Studies scholarship.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
