The Higher Education concentration is a specialized track within the University of Maryland's Higher Education, Student Affairs, and International Education (HESI) program. This nationally acclaimed graduate program equips students for leadership roles in academic institutions, policy organizations, and scholarly pursuits. Graduates from this concentration often secure positions as mid-to-senior-level college administrators, higher education policy experts, analysts, and university professors. Although part of the HESI program, the Higher Education concentration maintains separate admission standards and curriculum requirements. Course offerings span multiple disciplines including Policy and Finance, Diversity and Student Experiences, Leadership and Organization, and Academic Professions. Students also have the flexibility to create personalized specializations with faculty guidance. The program allows for cross-disciplinary coursework in business, public affairs, and social sciences. Each student develops a customized study plan in collaboration with their faculty advisor, with most departmental classes scheduled for afternoon and evening sessions.
