The dual degree program merges curriculum from Architecture and Historic Preservation, allowing students to earn both a Master of Architecture and Master of Historic Preservation with reduced credit requirements compared to pursuing them individually. The University of Maryland's architecture graduate programs are nationally acclaimed for their leadership in sustainable construction and urban design. The pioneering Integrated Design Studio/Advanced Technology Seminar, a first-of-its-kind initiative, exemplifies the fusion of design studio teaching with technical expertise. Every Master of Architecture student, regardless of their specialization, engages in this distinguished learning opportunity.
This architecture and historic preservation dual degree leverages the best of both disciplines, equipping graduates for rewarding careers in neighborhood renewal and repurposing historic structures. Path A (for architecture undergraduates) comprises 81 credits spanning about 2.5 years, while Path B (for non-architecture undergraduates) involves 126 credits over roughly 4.5 years.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
