The Survey and Data Science PhD Program unites faculty from various academic disciplines, all committed to instructing cutting-edge techniques in survey statistics and methodology. Faculty members are primarily drawn from the University of Maryland, University of Michigan, and Westat, with additional instructors from several federal statistical agencies. Both the Master of Science (program code: SUDS) and PhD in Survey and Data Science offer three specialization tracks: Statistical Science, Social and Psychological Science, and Data Science. The Statistical Science track caters to students focusing on topics like sampling design, complex sample estimation, variance analysis, measurement error modeling, and missing data corrections. The Social Science concentration targets those interested in questionnaire development, interview system design, digital data collection tools, mode effects, cognitive approaches to survey measurement, and minimizing non-sampling errors. The Data Science specialization prepares students for computational aspects of survey research and big data applications, covering data visualization, handling complex datasets, survey-related human-computer interaction, and machine learning techniques.
