The Mathematics Department currently maintains close affiliations with three key programs: Mathematics (MATH), Applied Mathematics & Statistics, and Scientific Computation (AMSC), along with the Mathematical Statistics Program (STAT). Prospective students should specify their preferred program using the designated code during the application process. The interdisciplinary AMSC program provides three specialization tracks: applied mathematics, scientific computation, and applied statistics. The Statistics Program focuses on mathematical statistics and probability theory. Within the Mathematics Program, graduate studies encompass diverse fields including algebra and algebraic geometry, complex analysis, dynamical systems, geometry, harmonic analysis, mathematical logic, number theory, numerical analysis, differential equations (both ordinary and partial), probability theory, real and functional analysis, representation theory, statistics, and topology.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
