The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics provides a doctoral program in Epidemiology. Ph.D. candidates develop expertise in epidemiological and biostatistical approaches for designing, conducting, and assessing public health research concerning psychosocial, behavioral, biological, and cultural influences. Learners can collaborate with their advisor to create a personalized research focus or choose between two specialized tracks: Social Epidemiology or Environmental Epidemiology. Participants benefit from direct mentorship by faculty members who support them throughout the entire program to achieve their academic objectives. Situated in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, the program offers exceptional research prospects in public health, with potential placements at prominent institutions like the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (including the National Institutes of Health and National Center for Health Statistics), Children's National Medical Center, the Maryland Department of Health, and numerous other federal, state, and local health organizations.
Those applicants who have earned or will earn a bachelor's degree at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized institution in another country) are eligible to be considered for admission to the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
