The Aerospace Engineering Department provides an extensive graduate program culminating in Master of Science (both thesis and non-thesis options) and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Students may specialize in diverse fields including aerodynamics and propulsion, structural mechanics and composites, rotorcraft technology, space systems, and flight dynamics with stability and control. These disciplines offer customizable study paths in specialized areas like computational fluid dynamics, aeroelastic phenomena, hypersonic flow, composite materials, intelligent structures, finite element analysis, space propulsion systems, robotics, and human-machine interaction. The Ph.D. in aerospace engineering mandates completion of at least 36 credit hours post-bachelor's degree, with a minimum of 12 credits earned at the University of Maryland. Additionally, candidates must complete 12 semester hours of dissertation research while maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA throughout their studies.
