The Advanced Graduate Specialist (A.G.S.) certification in Special Education enhances professional expertise within a specialized focus area of special education. This program caters to students seeking advanced graduate studies beyond their master's degree, covering any of the primary disciplines offered in the master's curriculum. Upon fulfilling all requirements, the College of Education grants this certificate, which is distinct from a degree program. Applicants must hold a master's degree or equivalent from the University of Maryland or another accredited university. The AGS certification requires a minimum of 60 graduate credit hours, which may include relevant credits from the master's program. The curriculum primarily consists of special education coursework, supplemented by classes from the College of Education or other University of Maryland colleges. Students may enroll either part-time or full-time, but they must maintain continuous registration throughout the program.
