Studying Physics at Maryland offers numerous benefits, such as intimate class settings, exceptional instructors, and high-achieving peers. Our program features a dedicated physics curriculum taught exclusively by our professors, even for introductory courses. We emphasize that the most valuable physics learning happens beyond lectures, which is why we strongly urge all majors to engage in pioneering research with our globally renowned faculty. By joining research initiatives, students gain firsthand experience in conducting top-tier scientific investigations. A physics bachelor's degree from Maryland serves as a strong base, whether you pursue graduate studies in physics or enter fields like engineering, software development, law, business, or education. Our driven undergraduates share an enthusiasm for physics that fosters a vibrant, collaborative learning environment, while also pursuing diverse interests in music, athletics, arts, and theater.
The Education Physics concentration is tailored for students seeking teaching certification through the College of Education. Note that finishing all required courses in this concentration alone doesn't fulfill all certification prerequisites. Education Physics students aiming for secondary education certification must first apply and gain admission to the College of Education's Secondary Education Program, then complete its additional coursework requirements.
