The Middle School Education, Mathematics and Science Concentration (an undergraduate degree program) equips students to obtain a Bachelor of Science while fulfilling Maryland State Department of Education criteria for dual certification in math and science for grades 4-9. This curriculum aligns with both Maryland state standards and Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) guidelines. Participants complete specialized coursework in mathematics tailored for middle school educators, covering mathematical reasoning, numerical concepts, algebraic and geometric principles, along with statistical analysis. The science curriculum encompasses physics, chemistry, biological sciences, and earth sciences. Additionally, all students enroll in foundational education courses focusing on middle school teaching philosophies, inclusive classroom strategies, subject-specific instructional methods, and adolescent growth studies.
High school students and students with fewer than 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of university-level credit beyond secondary school should apply as freshman applicants.
