The Department of Materials Science and Engineering provides an integrated B.S./M.S. program for University of Maryland undergraduates. Participants in this program can obtain both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science with thesis within five years. Applicants must submit their application to the University of Maryland Graduate School in their final undergraduate year. Their graduate studies will commence in the semester or summer immediately following graduation. MSE integrates principles from engineering, physics, and chemistry to address practical challenges in nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, energy, and manufacturing. Graduates can pursue diverse career paths including advanced manufacturing, research and development of eco-friendly materials for sustainability, industrial consulting, and directing research in government laboratories.
