The chemical engineering bachelor's program features a demanding course of study that integrates chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics. Students learn to apply these scientific principles across diverse fields like energy, advanced materials, biotech, manufacturing, electronics, and nanotech. Our specialized electives incorporate cutting-edge research for practical implementation. From their freshman year, participants gain direct engineering practice through courses like Introduction to Engineering Design (ENES 100). This hands-on class challenges interdisciplinary student teams to create, construct, and operate a self-guided hovercraft meeting strict performance criteria. The University of Maryland's Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department (ChBE) provides an accelerated five-year dual-degree option culminating in both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (B.S./M.S.), complete with a research thesis requirement.
