The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology offers a comprehensive academic foundation in human movement and physical activity. This program explores the historical, cultural, developmental, and biophysical foundations of movement participation across all age groups. Learners develop insights into movement mechanics, influencing factors, and the advantages of an active lifestyle. Investigate physical activity's multifaceted impact on health and performance throughout life. As one of UMD's top 10 largest majors, Kinesiology currently enrolls 774 undergraduates. Though many enter as freshmen, most students transfer into the program from other institutions or change majors within the university. Our interdisciplinary approach presents novel perspectives on enhancing health and performance by exposing students to kinesiology's diverse aspects. The curriculum covers human physiology, biomechanics, motor cognition, and how environmental and sociocultural elements influence health, athletic performance, and sports management.
High school students and students with fewer than 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of university-level credit beyond secondary school should apply as freshman applicants.
