The family science program centers on examining family structures and the challenges they encounter in modern society. This major provides comprehensive instruction in research techniques to analyze family dynamics, behaviors, and resilience, while addressing familial concerns. Learners develop skills to assess, interpret, and enhance family wellbeing through educational initiatives, practical studies, policy evaluation, and administration of social service programs. Our Department grants a Bachelor of Science in Family Science. Enrolled students explore family systems, contemporary obstacles they confront, and strategies to support their prosperity. The program emphasizes personal and familial growth across generations, investigating social, cultural, financial, and historical influences on family operations. Core studies investigate: evolving family structures, multicultural households, youth and family progression, age-group relationships, legal aspects of family life, household finances, economic hardship, employment-family balance, family emergencies, investigative approaches, and community support systems for families. All participants fulfill a 120-hour practicum, gaining hands-on experience by implementing academic knowledge in a workplace setting.
High school students and students with fewer than 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of university-level credit beyond secondary school should apply as freshman applicants.
