The Environmental Science and Policy (ENSP) program is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major jointly supported by three colleges, designed to cultivate skilled problem-solvers ready to tackle modern environmental issues. Through foundational coursework in science and policy, students progress to focused studies across diverse fields like biology, geology, anthropology, and political science. This cross-disciplinary approach proves particularly effective for analyzing complex global issues like climate change, sustainable food systems, urban planning, and eco-friendly innovations. ENSP emphasizes blending natural and social sciences to inform sound public policy decisions. By studying multiple disciplines, students learn to connect ideas across fields and discover fresh insights in environmental science. This educational approach enhances graduates' career prospects by equipping them to navigate interdisciplinary challenges and connect scientific knowledge with policy development.
Coastal land development, involving some of the most valuable real estate, now requires careful consideration of ecological impacts, storm risks, and evolving legal frameworks amid advancing scientific understanding. With one-fourth of humanity affecting coastal ecosystems and the need for sustainable resource management, ocean and coastal science graduates enjoy strong career opportunities. The curriculum covers oceanography fundamentals, coastal processes, their interaction with weather systems, factors affecting coastal biodiversity, geospatial analysis techniques, computational modeling, and marine policy frameworks. Students are also encouraged to participate in international marine science study programs to broaden their perspectives.
