To earn a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science, students must fulfill several requirements. This includes taking 11 courses, with three being core subjects, along with 18 credit hours dedicated to doctoral dissertation research. Candidates must successfully defend their dissertation, pass the comprehensive portfolio, and complete both the preliminary examination and admission to candidacy. Furthermore, a minimum of three years of full-time graduate study is mandatory, with at least one year spent at UMBC. The entire program must be finished within four years of achieving doctoral candidacy, while maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA.
