The cinematic arts program equips students with the theoretical foundation, historical background, and practical abilities needed to create narrative, documentary, and experimental works within an artistic setting. This approach values creative concepts as highly as technical proficiency. Combining hands-on learning with academic study, the curriculum covers film/video history, critical analysis, screenwriting, and proposal development alongside comprehensive training in digital production and editing tools that support individual artistic expression. The Production Center (known as The Cage) offers equipment, materials, technical support, and maintenance services exclusively for enrolled Visual Arts students, graduate candidates, faculty, and staff. Student workers manage more than 600 inventory items, assist around 200 users annually, and process over 2000 equipment loans each year. The facility grants round-the-clock access to editing suites while maintaining 30 weekly hours for supply purchases and equipment transactions.
