The American Studies bachelor's degree program requires 36 credit hours: 15 credits from core American Studies classes, 18 credits spread across three thematic areas, and 3 credits for practical experience (such as internships, teaching practicums, community service projects, or hands-on research). Students pursuing other majors can opt for an American Studies minor. To count toward the major or minor, all courses except the practical component must be completed with at least a C grade. With departmental approval, up to 9 credits from related fields can fulfill thematic requirements, and a maximum of 6 independent study credits may apply toward the major.
