Welcome to the Chemistry Department at the University of Maine. As the sole institution in Maine providing both Ph.D. and M.S. programs in chemistry, we take great pride in our academic offerings. Our faculty and graduate students conduct diverse research across various chemistry disciplines. With smaller research groups, we foster close collaboration between students and professors. Numerous teams work on interdisciplinary projects, creating chances to partner with engineers, materials scientists, biologists, and education researchers.

Most of our graduate students pursue Ph.D. degrees, with all first-year students typically receiving teaching assistant positions. Research assistantships become available, generally starting in the second year. We ensure continuous financial support for all students maintaining satisfactory progress until degree completion.
Polymer Chemistry

Polymer chemistry focuses on creating novel polymeric materials and examining how molecular structure influences their large-scale characteristics for uses ranging from packaging to medical applications. Investigators develop innovative polymerization techniques, eco-friendly polymers, and methods to manipulate polymer molecular architecture.
