The Master of Education program offers customized professional development for educators through individually tailored curricula. Students collaborate with advisors to create their study plans, requiring at least 33 semester hours to complete. A minimum of 12 semester hours must be in 500- or 600-level professional education courses at the University of Maine. Instead of a thesis, candidates fulfill their final requirement through a comprehensive paper, project, portfolio, or oral exam, typically completed in their last year. This culminating experience showcases integrated learning across the entire program. While the M.Ed. is fully customizable, structured concentrations like Art Education are also available.
