The Mathematics and Statistics Department provides a Master of Arts program in Mathematics. Students typically concentrate their graduate studies in one of three main fields: applied mathematics, theoretical mathematics, or statistical analysis.
Upon enrollment, each student receives a temporary advisor to help design an appropriate study plan aligned with their objectives, until they form their official advisory committee by the conclusion of their first year.
Core Requirements: A minimum of 30 approved credit hours must be completed as part of the study program, with all courses requiring endorsement from the student's advisory committee.

Qualification Requirements
A bachelor's degree is required for ALL master's, C.A.S., Ed.S., and doctoral programs.

In addition to satisfactory performance of the applicant as an undergraduate, as evidenced by transcripts, letters of recommendation, and G.R.E. scores, the Department requires one semester of real analysis (equivalent to MAT 425) and one semester of abstract algebra (equivalent to MAT 463). Occasionally, students can be admitted with a deficiency in one of these areas if the deficiency is made up in the first year of graduate study. The minimum TOEFL score for admission for non-native English speakers is 80 (internet-based).
Cover Letter. Send a brief cover letter in pdf format of no more than one page indicating your intent to apply to our program, intended semester of matriculation, your permanent address, contact information, country of citizenship, and anything else you wish to tell us that is not included in your essay (see below).
Brief essay (300-500 words) describing your academic background and objectives. (Why are you applying to the program, and what do you hope to get out of it?)
Three letters of recommendation. Letters should be sent directly to us by the letter writers via the email address below (or regular mail if necessary).
A writing sample. Please provide a scan of one of your returned graded written proof-based assignments from an upper level math class. We would like to get a feel for your mathematical writing style.
